Contextualized v023
Welcome Photographers! Version 023 is a girthy girthy boy, and there is a tremendous amount to go over in this patch. So I won’t tease you any longer…
NOTE: v023 of Sapphire Safari will require a new save file to function correctly. You will not be able to load previous saves. Too many new things were added and we won’t be able to troubleshoot complications from using older versions.
I am honored to show you all what we have built over the past two months, we originally suspected the new content would change or shift how the game came together, but it has been a smooth transition into adding quests and narrative functions. We are super excited to build more after we launch on Steam.
Introduction
When you start a save inside Sapphire Safari you are now greeted with a nice introduction cinematic and quest line. The cinematic itself will likely go under a lot more polish changes and fixes since we are doing something the rest of the game likely won’t see much of. The quest introduces 6 characters. Frida, Jamie, Oscar, Chaddington, Sarah, and Murphy. These characters comprise the Photography and Expedition Teams that traveled to Sapphire Island to document and unearth its discoveries. Each character has a voice actor, and they have all done an amazing job bringing the characters to life!

Basic Photography Tutorial
The first of our guided tutorial experiences in Sapphire Safari, this skippable tutorial has your rival (the character you do not select at character selection) explain the very basics of handling your Camera, Controls, and Operations.
Campsite Activation
Part of the new introduction forces the player to activate the Campsite Radio Beacon before they can continue to play the game, I know a lot of players lost track of this core function of Sapphire Safari so now you cannot avoid it.
Expedition Logs
The first Expedition team made up of Chaddington, Sarah, and Murphy left a series of Expedition Logs strewn around Sapphire Island. These logs are audio recordings of the findings and discoveries the team has made within the 4 weeks they are left alone on the island. In total the full game will have players hunting about 100 of these spread across the entire playspace, but for the Steam launch, there are only 19 available to find. Future patches will open the “Collectables” tab inside the Guide Book to track the completion of these logs and offer the ability to replay the audio.
Additional controls will be coming in a future patch for skipping, pausing, restarting, etc along with getting the full UI built for the tool. For now, you’ll have to put up with the temp UI.
Perfect Photo
A brand new addition to the scoring mechanics of Sapphire Safari. The core of this is that photos taken will be scored on their contents, generally, you will not score higher than a “B” ranking. However, with Perfect Photos you will now be able to elevate that score to much higher levels. All it takes is a little patience, as the ability to take these photos is set to a limited time window based on what the Creature is doing. Position yourself correctly and wait for the perfect moment to strike. You’ll be scoring big in no time!
Audio Soundscape
All creatures and Characters (Photographers included) now have their full audio vocal libraries turned on. You will wander around Sapphire Island and be able to hear all the sounds the wildlife has to offer! Your chosen Photographer will react to things, speak on the photos they take, moan, and grunt to fall damage (and other things).
Bugs and Fixes
The Mysterious Tablet bug that was plaguing everyone on lower-end hardware has now been fixed. It was related to how view distance was handled in the game with the Unreal Engine Niagara system. We also fixed a very obscure bug about a blinding white box appearing on the map randomly, this was caused due to an artifact inside the fluid system we use for ejaculation. And Creatures should no longer spawn in giant clumps of fluff at the borders of the map! Hurrah! A lot of other bugs were squashed as well, check the changelog for more details.
And now that v023 is out we can mark off two of the Roadmap items for Phase One of our release schedule! Check out the updated Roadmap here.
So many new things were added to the game this patch, and a lot of them will still be tweaking as we come closer to launching on Steam. The next step in our progress is to make a demo available for the public to experience the game, we will be participating in the February Steam Nextfest, so expect that to drop around that time.

Curious, when will player interactions with the creatures be allowed? H scenes and all
Not exactly sure If I'm a fan of giving Oscar a voice. whenever I play these games I like the player character to be a soulless husk with no personality or name attached to them so I can just insert myself into them and be more immersed in the game. removing the first person camera was upsetting but I can deal with that, but giving him a voice completely take me out it. feels more like I'm just watching someone instead of actually being there. I guess I'm just asking for an option to tun off the player voice and only have the subtitles I know I can just turn off all the dialogue volume but I like the other characters talking and the voice acting is good.
also can we get more female on male predator animations the only one I'm getting is wild yoga maybe like a pinned cowgirl and you like can't get any positions with futa off and I don't really want to turn it on
More predator animations are coming in the future, along with a bunch of other animations.
As for the voice thing, that's kinda a big ask, Jamie and Oscar play big parts in the narrative of the game as a whole. They were designed as characters and not the soul-less husk you mentioned.
How do you feel about the vast number of other games with protagonists?
well if its like a normal game its fine but with an eroge game I'd rather be the one in control i tend to avoid eroge games with protagonist but like I already bought the game a while back when this stuff wasn't in the game so i guess I'll have to get used to it since there are no alternative games
Sorry it won't be what you want. It took a long time to find the game inside sapphire Safari and at this point we are very happy with it's direction.
at least Oscar is a likable character I was hoping for more of a sandbox game but It's fine could be way worse once had a game I was following only for the dev to added unavoidable ntr and some other fucked up shit
Yeah, ima have to agree with that. I hope its not too much to ask for but an option/ slider to turn down character voice would be really nice.
There is still a cave through which you can go OOB
Where abouts?
Go to the plain radio 5, look at west side, behind the big rock structure in kokai territory, there is the cave.
It's not clear in the screenshot, but we can jump from here and travel under the world.
I also managed to get back up on the map outside the boundaries. I was able to visit the currently closed areas and discovered placeholders for future camps in various locations.
I bought the game on itch, will I ever have access to the content in the steam version
Not sure I understand the question.
If you're asking if your save will work on the Steam version? Yes, it should carry over if there are no compatibility issues between versions.
If you're asking if you'll get a free Steam key when we launch there for owning it on Itch? No, you will not get a second copy of the game. Both Itch and Steam (along with every other store front) get the same game, and it all gets updated at the same time. We treat each store seriously and no users will feel left out because they own it somewhere else.
When I saw the phase one roadmap I assumed from the looks of it that only steam was getting the EA release and the version on Itch would remain a demo.
Oh okay so no every store gets the same updates.
is this upd on jast too or only here?
JAST has the files, but I dunno when they patch. As I have no control over it. So it SHOULD be on JAST
i bought the game on 26th jan and now thers new update do i need to buy it again?
No, just download the update. Be sure to login to the account that made the purchase.
on my current save why am i locked out of the camp when I wasnt before cause now I cant submit photos now and now their gone
You need to start a new save file. Old saves do not have any compatibility with the new game. You should have been forced to do it but there are some instances of it not working. We mention this inside the news post as well, big bold text.
The bold text is glitched so i cant see it
eh? what are you trying to read the page on?
'clumps of fluff' sounds adorable, I can see a big furry ball of fluff deep in nests where a bunch of members of the species are sleeping together and it sounds so cute.
One day we need more options for petting: hugging, belly rubs, ear scritches, the ability to abandon real life and live in the game.
Thanks for all your work, now I must go and show my rival what the feelings of defeat, misery and shame feel like while I enjoy cuddling with fluff.
Yeah we wanna add a lot more petting options in the game but it's a low priority compared to getting in the missing photography mechanics and making a demo.
Makes sense, I'm just projecting due to my desire to fluff monster girls but you guys can ignore my wants as they are mainly for venting.
By the way I noticed the maps left side doesn't seem to like unfogging when activating the beacons, their normal functions work fine and restarting the game fixes the map fog so only a minor visual bug.
Funny thing that happened about 30-45 minutes ago, I found Murphy's log 30(?) about snake girls in the tall grass and in the middle of listening while hiding in the tall grass a snake girl found and had her way with me, so I missed some of the log but it was a hilarious coincidence.
Yeah, they spawn more frequently up there. Logs will be replayable in a future patch once the UI is made for it.
se podra la domesticacion de las entidades
You can be friendly with them, but there is not and will not be any taming mechanics. That isnt what this game is.
What do you think about adding queen for some species?
What would the queen do?
make them bigger and in case of the bee or other insects you add make them a little bit diffrent like with the bee make it bigger and make its butt way bigger or an other idea is make it like how alpha pokemon look and behave
Maybe. We got a lot to add first. I'll put it on the back list.
Hey, that's a good idea! For the bees specifically, at least.
@KinkyFridays, if you end up adding alpha/queen type girls, give the mama rabbit big floppy lop ears pls
I have nothing to do with the ideas of the people who answered below and want to say how I see this idea. Queens (or kings) can be added only to some species (maybe bees or anyone you want). I do not support the idea of "just make 'em bigger and here's an alpha", because I think it will not fit into the game. I think that alphas should be distinguished by clothes or something like that (maybe a color or a crown). I have not yet come up with the purpose of their existence, but ordinary individuals of the species can work for the alpha, collect resources. Alphas can be given special animations that can be obtained by mating with them. In principle, the player will need to interact with alphas for this. Also, I think this can give more extensive ideas for quests. If Alphas could talk and interact with the player, they could give tasks.
Considering we plan to add 40+ species to the full game, adding missions for each one would be very crazy in terms of content scope for our small team. We might consider something special like an ultra-rare variant maybe.
Oooo. Wonderful. Thanks for the update.
You're welcome!
