Hello employees! Welcome to another dev blog for Under Contract.

This will just be a quick post today to go over what we are working on right now, and the result of this is going to be the focus for the next patch of the game.

Level up your coworkers!

Coming in v0.4.6 is the leveling system for Richard and any coworkers he rescues on his climb to the top of the company. The basics are that beating any level in Under Contract will reward the active party member experience points. Reaching the cap will increase their level and unlock new powerful gems that will appear within the puzzle mode experiences.


Depending on the difficulty you select you’ll receive different amounts of EXP with the most being given on hard mode.


The system is in place right now to start accumulating the experience points for your party members however additional systems need to be built before the new power can unlock. Currently, we are testing just what the second powers will be, and offering a randomized gem color and power for the second unlock is kinda the direction we are heading.

Reaching level 2 will also spawn another character-related cutscene, allowing Richard to date his coworkers.

Rush Mode

As the rewards for Hard mode are increasing, we wanted to add something a little more chaotic into the game mode. Rush Mode is something that will drastically increase the speed of line drops near the end of each puzzle mode, creating a far more climactic ending to each node Richard plays. This is ONLY available in Hard Mode.

Computer Nodes

Lastly, we have begun work on creating an interactive computer system within Under Contract. Visiting the free “green” nodes will allow Richard to access his work computer. Inside the system will be an email application for receiving more world-building narratives, sexy selfies from your coworkers and bosses, a fast travel system to other unlocked green nodes, and other related services. We will have more to share with this soon!

Adding rpg element to this game is a good idea.  So i have questions from a utility perspective.  1) will these new abilities have cool downs or some type of cost? 2) How is the keyboard mapping going to work? I'd suggest making it as easy as possible members and then therefore their respective abilities.  3) Will in battle party member swapping me a tactic? Or maybe an assist system?  4) Are there pros and cons for pursuing relationships with the ladies? Persona has something like this.  5) What is the end game for the relationships? New animations? 6) will exp be shared if you switch members during the puzzles?

1. You combo a new gem and it activates. The better the power the less frequent the gems shows up.

2. There is no button for it. Keyboard configuration is already in the game.

3. You can swap the active companion on the overworld. You won't be able to do it in puzzles or combat 

4. We don't have any plans to make some sort of jealousy system or locking off content because you picked one girl first. The only condition for not dating someone fully is how much exp they have before the end of the game.

5. Well, outside of learning more about the girl, you'll get new intimate animations and perhaps a new skin to use in the main game.

6. You can't swap companions mid puzzle. So there is no exp sharing.

Thank you for getting back to me with the answers.  Regarding the keyboard binding, I guess where I'm confused is in the settings I'm not seeing a breakdown of the mapping.  I wish I could see this and change it.  Again idk if I'm looking at this wrong.  Also fair enough on the companion swap.  Was just curious.  Everything else is all good.  Thanks. 

Powers are just another special gem spawning in the play field. It's not a power you activate.
